Phoenix Nest

Phoenix Nests, November 2011

Here we are, the very first image of my art that I am uploading to the web. To be honest, it feels much less important than I thought it would.

This piece was actually inspired by my love of wooden bowls. I really wanted to make one, but didn't want it to just be a boring old bowl. So I changed it. And thus the Phoenix Nests were born. This piece also inspired a video installation, but to me, they are really two separate things. So I will post them separately.

Lately, I have been working with the idea of the beauty and rebirth that destruction brings about. To me, the most beautiful form of destruction is fire. There is something about the colors, the smell and the warmth. It reminds me that even though something is being lost, there is still so much to gain from the destruction. A phoenix dies in a burst of fire, and is reborn from the ashes. I wanted to show that idea through this piece.

PS, I just thought you should know

I have decided against having a blog for just telling stories. I am not very good at it is all. So this little blog of mine is also going to be a place for me to put images of my projects, both art and craft. I figured it would keep people from getting bored by my life, which is overall rather boring and monotonous.

So prepare for the epic awesomeness of my creative experiments!!

They will be coming shortly.

Wonderful Winter Weekend

Best thing about this weekend: running into my family at the Festival of Trees. I love those crazy fools.
Best part about running into my family: Savannah's pants.
She had them on completely backwards. I have no idea how she did it. The button and the zipper were done up, they were just on her butt. The pockets (normally found on one's behind) were in the front. I wish I had taken a picture. It was so funny.

Second best thing: getting to spend time with so many of my friends.
For me, weekends start on Thursdays so this is a breakdown of my weekend

Thursday: Adam came over and we watched a movie. I was supposed to watch a movie with Paul, but he backed out at the very last second, so I only saw Paul for a few minutes. But no worries, movie night with Paul has been rescheduled for this Tuesday (aka tomorrow). Paul was the first one who ruined everything. I could have scheduled watching Gladiator with Nate if I had known that Paul was going to cancel. But I don't mind. Paul ruining everything contributed to me coming to a realization this weekend.

Friday: One of my bestest buddies, Nathan M., took me to see Hugo. I really love spending time with him, and will be super sad when he leaves me in just a week or so. I really enjoyed the movie too. It was pretty.

Corey is really bad at taking pictures apparently

Saturday: Alison needed to go to some sort of expo for one of her classes, and she decided that she wanted to go to the Festival of Trees and that I was going to come with her. I decided that we needed to bring friends, so I invited Corey and David. It was pretty fun. Although Corey has apparently decided that I don't know how to stop talking. Which is kind of true.
After the tree festival, we all went to get crepes. Which I didn't actually get. All I wanted was a hot chocolate. Corey didn't get anything either. So we watched David and Alison eat their crepes. Alison gave me a taste of hers, and it was actually pretty good.
Somewhere earlier in the day Morgan came over and painted on our window. But that will be discussed in further detail in another post :)
Also, Doug came over after all of this and watched a movie with me. It was called The Losers and was actually kind of good.

Sunday: Alison and I joined Corey for his ward's sacrament meeting. So I got to see Corey twice in one weekend, which was awesome because Corey is one of my favorite people. Then we went to the First Presidency's Christmas Devotional. Chelsea got tickets, and let us join her. She even let me invite another friend, so I brought Nate along. It was great, except that both Nate and I fell asleep for the first talk. I was just really sleepy, okay? Nate's only excuse is  that he sleeps through everything.

And that was my weekend. Crazy busy. But so much fun! And I know that I mentioned a realization that I had come to, but I am not going to share it with the internet. So if you want to know, you are just going to have to ask me :)
